1,377,141 plastic bags were found on 17,000 miles of coastline

As previously mentioned weekend of 19th & 20th September was the 24th International Coastal Cleanup. The report is now available :

11,439,086 debris items were found worldwide which represent 3,402 tons (the weight of 18 blue whales - the largest whale in the world) and 1,377,141 of these items were plastic bags (12%) on 17,000 miles of coastline. 1,236 people on boats and 10,600 divers collected 38,224 pounds of debris that could not be reached from land.

Another shocking number is 57.3%, Europe percentage of Shoreline and Recreational Activities- Shoreline/Recreational Activitites: The majority of marine debris come from land-based activities like eating fast food and discarding the wrappers, beach trips, picnics, sports and recreation, and festivals. Litter washes into the ocean from streets, parking lots and storm drains.

The World's largest volunteer effort of its kind.

Future Bags produces Bags for life for The Victoria Centre in Nottingham

Earlier this month Heart 106 teamed up with the Victoria Centre in Nottingham to produce a "Bag for Life". Once the logo chosen, Future Bags was asked to manufacture 5000 Non-Woven PP Bags. The winner's logo (from over 2000 entries) was illustrated by Ben Simpkin (Age 9) from Albany Junior School in Stapleford, Notiingham.

We made a rather than large bag : 500mm x 150mm x 500mm, printed 4 colours process on both sides. The bag has a matt lamination all over as well as having the handles matt laminated too.

The Heart Ground Patrol was in the Victoria Centre from Thursday 30th July – Sunday 2nd August encouraging you to exchange as many plastic bags as you can for your Bag for Life!

What is the difference between Non-Wowen PP Bags and Woven PP Bags?

Non-Woven is textile such as felt. Non-Woven materials are nowadays mainly produced from man-made fibres. Two synthetic polymers dominate the market : polypropylene (PP) and polyesters (PET).

Woven is a thermoplastic polymer. Woven is manufactured by the process of weaving (art of forming a fabric by interlacing at right angles two or more sets of yarn).

Both are economical material and are far better substitute for plastic carrier bag as they are much stronger and 100% environmentally friendly.

Non-Woven PP Bags and Woven PP Bags come in a number of styles, sizes and colours. They can be printed up to 4 colours (pantone or process).

Woven PP Bags are reverse printed onto a matt or gloss laminated which is then laminated to the Woven material, ideally suited for more complex printing and easy to wipe clean.

Non-Woven PP Bags look and feel like cloth but is actually soft textured PP which decomposes naturally and they're also liquid repellent!

'Banish Plastic Bags!' Campaign for a Cleaner Environment, FREE from Plastic Bags!

An astonishing 13 billion free single-use plastic bags are handed out by Britain's High Street stores every year. These bags - a by product of crude oil - are issued at the rate of more than 800 a year to every family in the UK. Typically they are used for only 20 minutes on average before being thrown away and if thrown in the environment they take more than 1,000 years to rot away!

They are now several organisations such as the Daily Mail and Marks and Spencers who have started 'Banish the Bags' campaigns in an effort to rid the country of these plastic single-use bags.

Two of Britains neighbours have shown how simple steps can bring a dramatic fall in the use of throwaway bags, in Ireland for example the Government introduced a bag tax in 2002, currently 16p, which led to an incredible 90% reduction since then.

Non Woven PP Bags for Audi - Goodwood Festival of Speed

We recently produced Non-Woven PP Bags for the 2009 Goodwood Festival of Speed which took place on the 3-5 July. (World's biggest and most diverse celebration of the history of motor sport and car culture).

Audi UK, for 13 successive years, has had a significant presence at the event. Future Bags has made a Non-Woven PP Laminated Bags, printed 4 colours on both sides to celebrate its centenary in spectacular style!

In the early days, Heat Transfer printing was principally used in the printing of novelty items, such as polyester tops and t-shirts. Our Canvas Bags are made, like our Cotton Bags, from natural or dyed material. Heavier weight (10oz) than cotton, canvas bags are ideal for retailers. Usually made with long handles, canvas bags are practical, strong enough to carry your heaviest items and look great too!

All our bags have cross-stitches on the handles for added strength as well as the inside chain stitched to avoid the edges to fray.

Non-Solvent Water-Based Ink

Water-based inks: A revolutionary screen printing ink of high quality. This means it's also safer to use and more environmentally friendly.

1) All water-based inks are semi-transparent - by adding Opaque White to other colours, it will tone them down and add opacity.

2) Water-based inks are a good choice when a "soft hand" is desirable. A "soft hand" is the condition where the ink film cannot easily be felt with the hand when passed across the surface of the fabric.

3) Water-based inks also have the advantage of being an excellent ink system for high speed roll-to-roll yardage printing. Such printing is done on large sophisticated equipment that has very large drying capacity.

4) Non-solvent water-based inks do not contain any solvents.

Our bags : Woven PP - 1/4

This style of bags is very popular across Europe and is becoming evermore popular in the UK.

Woven PP bags are made by the process of weaving. Made from 100% polypropylene, it is an economical material, which is a far better substitute for other forms of plastic bags because Woven PP bags are light, strong, reusable, easy to wipe clean and 100% recyclable.

These bags are reverse printed onto a matt or gloss lamination which is then laminated to the Woven PP material, ideally suited for more complex printing. They can be made to any size or shape.
